Student Code of Practice

Access and equity

Course entry requirements, assessment and curriculum do not limit access on the basis of gender, race, social, cultural, religious, disability, philosophical background or age, except where an age requirement is set by a regulatory authority for the issue of a licence. All students are treated equally, and our instructors support students with language, literacy or physical needs where the nature of the need does not prevent completion of the training and assessment.

Language, literacy and numeracy support

We want every student to complete their course successfully. If you would like language, literacy or numeracy support, please contact your nearest training centre before the course so we can discuss it. If, on the day, significant needs prevent you from completing the course and a suitable support arrangement cannot be reached, your training will not proceed and you will be entitled to a full refund of any fees paid.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

You must have a USI to receive a Statement of Attainment for nationally recognised training. By law, your trainer cannot issue a Statement of Attainment unless you have supplied your USI. You may take part in the course, but your Statement of Attainment can only be issued once your USI is provided.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning is available on a case-by-case basis. Please speak with the instructor before booking to discuss your situation. You will need to show suitable evidence of your prior learning.

Your information and privacy

Any personal information we collect stays confidential and is not shared with any other source, except where required by regulation, for example with state government marine regulators for boat licence students. See our Privacy Policy for more detail.

Fees and refunds

Course fees, cancellations, transfers and refunds are covered by our Fees, Cancellations and Refunds policy. Please read that policy for the full terms.

Complaints

If a problem arises during your course, please talk to your instructor first, at the earliest opportunity. If the instructor cannot resolve it to your satisfaction, you can escalate it in writing to the Chief Executive Officer of Australian Boating College, clearly setting out the issue, including a description of the event, the location, date, time, the people involved, and any relevant information. The CEO acts as an independent reviewer and will provide a written response within 7 days. If your complaint cannot be resolved, you will be advised of the applicable escalation paths, which may include the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), the Office of Fair Trading, Maritime Safety Queensland, or the Queensland Ombudsman. To start a complaint, call us on 0427 110 025 or email info@sunshinecoastboatlicence.com.au and we will direct it to the right person.

Appeals

If you wish to appeal an assessment result, you have the right to do so. Please raise it with your instructor or with us using the contact details above, and we will provide the steps to register your appeal.

Your responsibilities

You are asked to give accurate information when you enrol, to follow the safety directions given by your instructor, and to treat staff and other students with respect. The safety of staff and students is our first priority, and instructors will explain the safety requirements for your course on the day.
